GEORGE SMITH : Democracy can survive polarity only if we listen to each other
Recently I received an offer from Beltone, reporting that I've "been selected to test one of the world's most advanced hearing devices."

Letters from Wednesday's Kennebec Journal:

Catholic bishop should be reprimanded or replaced
Roman Catholic Bishop Richard Malone of the Portland Diocese needs to be either reprimanded or replaced -- not for his stance on the gay marriage issue, but for dragging the church into the fray; and for telling the people, through the diocesan priests, that they must donate to the anti-gay movement and to do everything in their collective power to destroy the state acceptance of equal rights for all Maine people.

Sad to live in a state that discriminates
Well over $200,000 of contributions went to the Yes on 1 campaign, as reported on the Maine Campaign Finance site by the Roman Catholic Diocese.
