TJ Vallee captured an elusive individual state championship in his final opportunity at Saturday's wrestling state championships. The Cony senior advanced to the championship finals at the state meet in each of his previous two seasons, only to come up short of the gold medal. On Saturday, Vallee steadily built a lead on Westbrook's Harrison Strondak and came away with a 12-5 victory in the 189-pound final.

Waterville will open its Class A title defense against familiar foe and rival Messalonskee.
